The flat belt system so used in the place of a V belt system should not have more weight than the V belt system. 4. Bearing wear out can be reduced considerably by avoiding excessive belt tension vibrating foundation and pulley eccentricity. 5. On a multiple V belt drive always replace the entire set of belts if one or more belt breaks.

Let T 1 = Tension in the tight side of the belt. T 2 = Tension in the slack side of the belt. V = Velocity of the belt in meter/s. The effective tension or force acting at the circumference of the driven pulley is the difference between the two tensions (i.e. T 1T 2).

Jul 09 2013 · what causes slack side and tight side is the difference in tension induced due to friction between the pulley and belt. If pulleys are rotating in clockwise direction relative motion is anticlockwise for belt. hence friction will be in clockwise direction where ever is considered on belt. so belt above pulleys will have higher tension hence belt below pulleys form slack side and they sag due

With a high horsepower engine it is better to have the belt a little tight rather than loose. A loose belt will break much more readily than a tight one. Most people do not tighten the belt to its proper tension. If you plan on "racing" or hot rodding your bike invest in a Harley-Davidson BELT TENSION

Mar 08 2016 · I find it a bit annoying too. I kind of do a composite of all of the above posts and do what I can to ignore the guard interfering. First the bike goes on the center stand so I can find the tightest spot. Then I adjust the chain to the "loose" part of the spec measuring the slack about 1"-2" away from the end of the black plastic guard.

A countershaft carrying two V-belt pulleys is shown in the figure. Pulley A receives power from a motor through a belt with the belt tensions shown. The power is transmitted through the shaft and delivered to the belt on pulley B. Assume the belt tension on the loose side at B is 15 percent of the tension on the tight side.

That produces a driving tension in the belts of 166 lbs. The driving tension becomes the difference between the tight and loose spans. The preload is 1226 lbs determined above so the tight side tension is 696 lbs. and the loose side tension is 530 lbs. The resultant of those two forces is 1219 lbs. at an angle of 5.5° as shown in the sketch

V-Belt operating tension can be achieved with a 5 1 ratio between the tight side tension and the slack side tension. This ratio changes with the angle of contact on the small sheave. Formula #2 below establishes the static tension required to transmit the load under operating conditions (power speed angle of wrap etc.). A

In a properly tensioned pulley system the taut side (top arrow) has five times the operating tension of the slack side (bottom arrow). This is the optimal "5 1 dynamic tension ratio." A surprisingly small reduction in belt tension yields a proportionally large reduction in slack-side tension.

We consider a belt wrapped around a pulley of radius r as shown at (a) the contact extending from φ = 0 where the slack side tension is F min to φ = θ where the tight side tension is F max .The uniform belt speed is v say as shown (ie. the pulley is driveR). In order to clarify how the belt tension increases from F min to F max we consider the belt element δφ lying at φ.

The belt needs to be connected with the tensioner loosened so that the tensioner can be used to take up any excess slack. The specific procedure should be in the manual for your unit. But basically assuming the belt is attached with enough slack removed the tensioner bolt should be able to taske up the rest of the slack once tightened.

The primary goal of learning how to tension a V-belt is to find this happy tension medium.
